I’m excited to announce that my new brand UK Bid Writer will be officially launched in Autumn 2018.
The procurement landscape is changing fast, with the automation of data being a driving force behind improvements in procurement processes across the world. I want to continue to help SMEs navigate the world of tendering and make the most of the opportunities that are out there, both in the UK and further afield.
To do this, I need to make sure I stay one step ahead.
In late May, I was invited to attend the TED Superpowers of Procurement Data conference in Brussels and learned a huge amount about how AI and machine learning is going to change how we find, qualify and respond to tenders. It will have a particular impact on SMEs and it’s vital that we start planning for it now.
I’m not going to lie: it’s pretty daunting!
I had already done a lot of prep work on the new brand and business strategy, but that conference really brought home just how close that future really is. The aims of the UK Bid Writer brand therefore are to:
1. Strengthen my reputation as an ‘elder’ of the bid writing world:
From the days of flipping through the paper version of the OJEC with a highlighter and sending ring-bindered tenders by courier, to uploading everything to complex e-portals, I’ve been immersed in tenders for 20 years and I’ve seen it all!
2. Further position myself as an ‘expert for hire’:
As much as I love the planning, the writing and the deadlines (yes, really!) of pulling together a tender or a document library myself, I also really get a kick out of collaboration with my clients. I aim to do more consultancy, and more public speaking and coaching. I’m currently working on a series of presentations loosely themed as ‘the future of tendering for SMEs’, to deliver at events such as away days for individual businesses and at industry conferences.
3. Develop a broader scope of services while building stability and sustainability into my business:
So far, it’s just been me, working under my own name and putting in as many hours in the day as I can physically manage. While I definitely don’t want to move to the traditional tender services agency model, I have collaborated on larger projects with others in the past and I see the value in offering a wider stable of writers and consultants to my current and future clients. My vision is to develop a core team of experts, with specialist yet complimentary skills, to help our clients forge ahead into this bright new procurement world.
Between now and the launch later this year, I have a lot of work to do! Planning, marketing, networking, brainstorming and, inevitably, all the admin that goes with it, along with my day to day work will keep me very busy indeed.
However, I also have some extremely exciting news to share in about a month’s time! I can’t tell anyone yet as there’s a press embargo but it’s going to give my new brand a major boost and, I hope, will help me find the right people for the broader-scope vision.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying this endless heatwave!
